Tirzepatide Action Mechanism

Tirzepatide is a pharmaceutical compound that belongs to a class of drugs known as incretin mimetics or glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs). It is being developed as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, Tirzepatide was in various stages of clinical development.

Mechanism of Action: Tirzepatide works by mimicking the effects of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. It activates GLP-1 receptors, leading to increased insulin secretion, decreased glucagon secretion, delayed gastric emptying, and reduced appetite. These actions help lower blood sugar levels and promote weight loss.
